During the 2019-2021 Biennium,  the Kappa Kappa Psi Alumni Association Board of Directors established the “Young Alumni Award” to recognize brothers for outstanding achievement in the area of fraternal service.  Candidate criteria and required information are included below.

Nominator:_

Nominations for this award may be made by active chapters of Kappa Kappa Psi or Tau Beta Sigma, Local Alumni Associations (“LAAs”) of Kappa Kappa Psi or Tau Beta Sigma, individual alumni and life members of Kappa Kappa Psi or Tau Beta Sigma, any member of the National Headquarters Staff, the National Leadership Team  or any voting member of the Kappa Kappa Psi Alumni Association.

Nominee:

Any person nominated must be a voting member of the Alumni Association. They cannot be a current member of any part of the National Leadership Team or an employee of the fraternity. Membership status can be checked by contacting Kappa Kappa Psi National Headquarters by phone at 405-372-2333 or via email at hqacc@kkytbs.org, or by visiting the Online Membership and Reporting System (OMRS).

Nomination Process:

All nomination applications are to be submitted via email to kkpsiaa-awards@kkpsi.org.  Applications may be submitted at any time, but are encouraged by the priority deadlines of May 15 and November 15 annually. It is strongly suggested that a nominee not be made aware of their nomination until they actually receive the award in case there is any issue that prevents such recognition. In such a situation, the nominator will be notified of any issues with a suggested course of action.

Recognition Process:

When a selection is made, the recipient will be informed by the Chair of the Review Committee. At that point, discussion will begin about possible upcoming events at which to make the presentation.  The Kappa Kappa Psi Alumni Board of Directors will use their discretion to select the event and presenter. The recipient will receive a framed certificate, lapel pin and have their name placed in the appropriate fraternity records. A maximum of four can be selected per biennium.

Nominee Criteria:

To be eligible for consideration, the following criteria must be met:

  1. The nominee must have completed their last attended semester at least one year, but not more than five years prior to May 15th of the next National Convention. The Alumni Association Board of Directors has authority to allow for discretion involving certain instances where questions regarding dates may arise.

  2. The nominator must also provide a letter covering the following topics, taking into consideration and mentioning, where appropriate, attendance at fraternity events, different roles held, any informal support, and any other pertinent information regarding the nominee’s fraternal service (at the local, district, and/or national levels):

    • How does your nominee continue to serve and support the fraternity as an alumnus?

    • How does your nominee support and strengthen the role of alumni?

    • How does your nominee take the values of Kappa Kappa Psi to heart?

    • How does your nominee fit the “What can I do for you?” state of mind?

    • How do you envision your nominee’s involvement 5 years from now?

  3. The nominator should also submit any recommendation letters from people who can attest to the quality of the nominee’s fraternal service. Examples of individuals who could submit a recommendation letter include, but are not limited to, a Director of Bands, Sponsor, or any individual who has worked with the nominee on a Local, District or National Level. Please limit the number of letters to five (5).  The quality of the letter(s) will be weighed more than the quantity.

  4. After reviewing the submissions, the Awards Committee may follow up with the nominator with any additional questions.
